One of the things that attracted me to my role at the RJS Foundation was the ability to help local organisations making a difference. Reading has always been something I've enjoyed, and the National Literacy Trust have worked in Stoke-on-Trent for some time to encourage wider take up. One of the excellent local events that they run is the summer time Stories in the Park, and it was fantastic for the RJS Foundation to be able to support one of the storytellers at the Burslem event.
Although my children are a little bit too old now for these events, I enjoyed seeing the children and young people getting involved with the various activities and collecting free books from Stoke-on-Trent Libraries. Burslem Park is always a nice place to walk, but on a lovely sunny day with the air full of children's voices, it felt especially so. Reading is so important and it was great to be able to support.
