New D-Day 80th anniversary memorial bench
Commemorative plaque alongside the bench

Following on from the success of the memorial bench by Aldi, at the end of the summer the Meir Park Residents Association have installed another memorial bench further up Lysander Road to coincide with D-Day's 80th anniversary. I was delighted to once again support the installation of the bench through providing funding for the concrete base unit. Alongside the bench is a special plaque marking the occasion.

This bench - the third memorial bench in the ward - follows in the wake of a similar new bench in Catchems Corner, remembering local Dunkirk veteran Norman Lewis, who lived with his wife Dorothy in William Avenue between 1946 and 2022. Norman's son, who is also a Meir Park resident, made the suggestion and it was my pleasure to be able to arrange installation.
