When I stood for election in 2015, I had no idea I would be anything more than the councillor for Meir Park ward. It is an absolute honour to serve the residents of our city as Deputy Leader, and a bit of a surprise to be listed in the Sentinel’s 100 key influencers who make an inspiring contribution to our city.
I prefer to think that I am just trying my best to do the right thing for Stoke-on-Trent and it’s residents, but it’s lovely to be recognised nonetheless!
ABI BROWN, Deputy Leader, Stoke-on-Trent City Council
As well as deputising for council leader Dave Conway, Abi holds one of the authority's most important portfolios.
The Conservative group leader is overseeing the increasingly challenging task of delivering a balanced budget. She is also responsible for developing the council's partnerships with other authorities and organisations as the authority seeks to both make savings and boost the local economy. As such, she is frequently deployed in a high-profile ambassadorial role for the authority.
Abi is also a driving force behind Stoke-on-Trent's campaign to be named UK City of Culture 2021.
