Some fantastic news!
Earlier today I received a call from BT Openreach following my recent letter to their Chief Executive, which I delivered - along with our petition - to their headquarters in London last week (you can see a short montage of this on an earlier post). This was the result of a month of collecting signatures, after weeks of residents sending in complaints and concerns.
In short, BT Openreach recognise the strength of feeling locally about the telegraph poles and have shelved their plans. None of the scheduled work in Meir Park will go ahead. They did reiterate however that the area remains in their future plans but with hopefully a solution that is more acceptable to local residents.
They also acknowledge that responses to residents particularly in the last few months have been confused, and are trying as far as possible to ensure this message is conveyed now to all those who have contacted them.
None of this would have been possible without the support of local residents, who have provided me with particular snippets of information that helped us to target the campaign correctly, and who also ensured neighbours and friends were aware.
