Canberra Crescent Village Green Campaign UPDATE

Thank you to those residents who have responded to my calls for evidence to create village greens in Meir Park. Having received advice, I believe that the best first step to secure the future of the green space off Canberra Crescent is to focus our efforts on this area. If successful, we can then look at other areas of Meir Park to replicate this work. Evidence already shared with me for other areas will be saved for this purpose.

We now need to build an evidence base for the Canberra Crescent land to support the Village Green application. Today, I've delivered around 50 letters with a survey to complete, along with two maps. If residents can help by completing the survey and confirming the maps are correct this will give us a good starting point. I have also uploaded this letter, the survey and maps to this page (below) if you would find it easier to complete online and email back to me ([email protected]).

You can also share with friends and family elsewhere on Meir Park who may be able to help with the evidence gathering. Remember – we are looking for evidence that this area has been used for at least the last 20 years.

I can collect completed surveys from residents or alternatively, you will find me near the green space on Canberra Crescent on Monday 24th February from 8.45-9.30am if you want to have a chat or collect more copies of the survey. I am also happy to collect surveys that morning in person or if you have left somewhere safe (please let me know via email [email protected] or phone 07793 844169 – leave a message or a text/WhatsApp).

The survey is lengthy but self-explanatory, and I am grateful to the Open Space Society for enabling me to use it. It has been used successfully in other areas and helps to ensure we have the right evidence to support our Village Green application, including establishing who uses the area, how they use it and where they live. Please do your best to complete as much as possible, there is a blank page at the end for any further information you need to provide.

I will be continuing to work on this campaign over the summer and appreciate any support residents can provide in gathering evidence for the submission.

The survey and attachments you need to download to provide evidence;

  • 18022025 Canberra Crescent Village Green letter is an explanatory letter of where we are with the process. No need to print out.
  • Canberra Crescent Village Green survey - to download and/or print off. It's 10 pages long.
  • Map A - to download and/or print off. You need to sign this document if you agree that the red line matches the land being claimed as a village green.
  • Map B - to download and/or print off. Please indicate on the map where you live.

You can return to me via email - [email protected] - I'll continue to update this website and my Facebook page with details of how to return to me. Or please contact me to arrange collection. Thank you!

Meir Park Village Green Campaign - SPRING 2025 UPDATE

SPRING 2025 UPDATEWe received advice in January that it would be better to focus the Village Green campaign on the land off Canberra Crescent. As a result, I've been working with residents to gather information via surveys about how the area has been used over the years.
